On this day in 1991, Eritrean Independence was achieved after a 30-year battle against Ethiopia. Eritrean freedom fighters marched to the capital and independence was enforced. Last year, rights groups criticized the country for its lack of democracy, media freedom and policy of forced conscription.
The term “independence” has a unique meaning to the people of Eritrea.
Special thoughts to our Eritrean brothers and sisters.
