Cameroon gains independence from France (1960)

In African history, the year of 1960 was a big year, known as the “Year of Africa” due to 17 African countries gaining their independence. Cameroon was one of those countries. They gained their independence from France under President Ahmadou Ahidjo.

In 1961, the Southern region of Cameroon (English-speaking Cameroonians) became independent. Upon independence, Southern Cameroon united with French Cameroon to form the Republic of Cameroon.

Special thoughts to our Cameroonian brothers and sisters on this day.
