#BlackHistoryFacts for May 22: US Dept. of War establishes Bureau of Colored Troops, Benjamin O. Davis Jr. makes history

On this day in 1863, the United States Department of War established the Bureau of Colored Troops. The purpose of this was to help the Union Army fight the Civil War. Regiments of colored troops throughout the country were reorganized to form the United States Colored Troops (USCT).
